How do we compare?

Our comparison methodology explained

At DareToCompare.be, we aim to help you compare energy contracts, telecom subscriptions, mobile plans, charging cards and fuel cards in an independent and transparent way. On this page, we explain how our comparisons are made, which data we use, and how products are ranked.

Independent comparisons

This is a very important one for us straight away, and one of the key ways we differentiate ourselves from many competitors.

Our comparisons are based on objective criteria and up-to-date product information. Providers cannot pay to appear higher in the results. If we receive a fee for a completed contract or subscription, this does not affect the order of the comparison results.

Our goal is simple: to help users find the product that best matches their needs and budget.

How often are prices updated?

In short: daily.

Prices, promotions and product features are checked and updated regularly. When providers publish new rates, promotions or terms, we process them in our comparisons as quickly as possible. We have smartly automated a large part of this process, and we are quite proud of that.

Despite our efforts, prices or terms may change between two updates. That is why we recommend always checking the provider’s contract terms and pricing information before making a final decision.

Comparison methods

For each category, we offer different ways to compare. For example, you can run a calculation:

Energy comparison

For energy contracts, we offer several ways to compare. The most tailored comparison is the one where we calculate an estimated annual cost based on your personal usage profile. This gives you a more realistic picture than simply comparing the energy price per kWh.

Which data do we use?

Depending on the information available, we take into account:

Which costs do we include?

When calculating the annual cost, we take all key components of the energy bill into account, including:

This allows us to provide the most complete possible estimate of the total annual cost.

How are energy contracts ranked?

Energy contracts are ranked primarily based on the estimated annual cost. In addition, contract features, promotions or specific product characteristics may be shown so users can easily compare different offers.

Telecom comparison

Our telecom comparison helps consumers compare internet, television and bundle subscriptions.

Which data do we use?

Depending on the type of comparison, we may take into account:

Which elements do we compare?

For telecom products, we look at, among other things:

Service availability

Not all technologies are available everywhere. Where possible, results are filtered based on network availability at your address. This means only relevant products are shown.

We check availability at municipal level, because telecom operators do not make their street-level availability tests publicly available. That is unfortunate, and we hope their approach will change in time.

Mobile plans

When comparing mobile plans, we help users find an option that matches their data usage, call minutes and maximum budget. We also offer a comparison of bundle deals combining smartphones and mobile subscriptions.

Which features do we compare?

Depending on the product, we may take into account:

How are plans ranked?

Mobile plans are compared mainly based on price and the amount of included services. This makes it easy for users to assess which option offers the best value for money for their personal usage.

Comparison of charging cards for electric vehicles

Charging cards can differ greatly in terms of pricing, coverage and ease of use. That is why we compare several aspects of each charging card. Unfortunately, not every charging card provider communicates equally transparently about all these aspects. In those cases, we mention average prices and availability.

Which criteria do we include?

Depending on the data available, we may take into account:

How are charging cards ranked?

Charging cards are assessed based on a combination of cost, network coverage and ease of use. This helps users choose a charging card that fits their driving habits and charging needs.

Because rates may differ by charging point or operator, the actual charging cost may differ from the amounts shown in the comparisons.

Comparison of fuel cards

Fuel cards differ not only in fuel price, but also in terms of network coverage, ease of use and additional charges. Our comparison helps users find fuel cards that match their driving habits and needs.

Which data do we use?

When comparing fuel cards, we take several features into account, including:

Which elements do we compare?

We compare fuel cards based on, among other things:

How are fuel cards ranked?

Fuel cards are assessed based on a combination of price, availability and ease of use. The best choice depends strongly on individual usage.

For example, a fuel card with the lowest fuel cost is not always the best choice if the network does not sufficiently match your daily routes. That is why we take several factors into account to give as complete a picture as possible.

Important remarks

Fuel prices can vary considerably and change regularly. The final price you pay may depend on the location, the filling station, any discounts and the conditions of the fuel card.

For business users, factors such as administration, reporting and fleet management can also play an important role when choosing a fuel card.

Why are some products ranked higher than others?

The order of the results in our comparisons is determined based on relevant product features and the information available for your situation. We always aim to show the products that best match the user’s needs.

The main factors that may play a role are:

The exact ranking may differ by comparison type. For energy, for example, the focus is strongly on the estimated annual cost, while for telecom factors such as speed and available services also play an important role.

We also always offer the option to sort results or apply filters, so you can decide for yourself which features matter most to you.

Our data sources

For our comparisons, we use various sources, including:

We aim to keep our information as accurate and up to date as possible. If you notice an error or outdated information, you are always welcome to contact us.

Are all providers included in our comparison?

We aim to include as many relevant providers and products as possible in our comparisons. In this way, we want to give users the most complete possible overview of the options available on the market.

However, not every provider is always included. Some providers do not make all the necessary information available to allow a correct comparison. Without reliable data on promotions, prices, terms or product features, we cannot compare a product correctly and transparently.

In addition, some providers choose not to be included on comparison platforms. If a provider indicates that it does not wish to participate, we respect that choice and do not include its products in our results.

We continue to expand and update our comparisons regularly. When new information becomes available or providers become available for comparison again, we will review whether they can be included once more.

Our goal remains to provide the most complete, up-to-date and objective overview possible, so users can make an informed choice.

How do we differ from other comparison platforms?

There are different ways to compare products and services. Each platform has its own approach, objectives and way of working. At DareToCompare.be, we focus on a broad, practical comparison that helps consumers make the best choice based on their personal situation.

More than just a price comparison

In our view, a comparison goes beyond simply showing the cheapest option. The lowest price is not always the best choice. That is why we take various factors into account, such as product features, terms, availability, promotions and the user’s personal situation.

A broad comparison across multiple categories

While some comparison platforms focus on one specific sector, we combine several categories within one platform:

This allows users to discover different saving opportunities in one place.

Additional information alongside official comparisons

Official comparison platforms and sector initiatives often play an important role in providing transparent market information. For example, there is an official comparison tool for energy that helps consumers compare energy contracts.

Alongside this, our approach puts the emphasis on ease of use, clear explanations and comparing different aspects of an offer, so users do not focus on just one price but on the overall offer.
